Woody Guthrie
For this weeks post, I chose to focus on Woody Guthrie's, This land is your land.
I had heard that song often as a child on television. I would always see kids coming together and singing it as a sign of unity. Much of Woody Guthrie's music seems to be about peace unity and justice.
As I listened to this song it brought me back to images of serene landscapes, paradise. However this was not the whole truth. I began to think of all the disasters that had happen this year. With climate change, the category 5 hurricanes that ravaged the Caribbean, the horrible earthquakes that hit Mexico and the wild fires that ravaged California and I began to see how much we need music like Woody Guthrie's in such trying time. To unite us and Give us hope.
With all that in mind I chose to do this piece contrasting this peaceful preconceptions of the world with the hash realities of our current events.
